There seemed to be a lack of high quality childcare offering: - a friendly, warm and caring environment with professional staff fostering high standards in not only the care but in hygiene , cleanliness and safety hence cherubs first nursery at executive house opened based on that criteria. Since opening we have continued to grow, the original 40 place nursery is now registered for 90 children based on St. Albans road, Bulwell. Along with our second nursery registered for 82 children which opened in 1996. In January 2000, Robert Everist joined forces with Susan mills and Childcare East Midlands was formed, the following sites have been added to the group over the past 6 years. 2000 - Mansfield preparatory school and day nursery 2001 Longdale Nursery school and childrens centre. 2003- Cherubs day nursery Kimberley. 2004 Cherubs day nursery Newark. 2005 Attenborough preparatory school. 2006 Cherubs childrens centre. Bilborough road, Mansfield. 2006 Cherubs childrens centre, Wynndale drive, Mansfield 2007 Cherubs childrens centre, Pleasley Landmark The company has continued to grow but our high standards of care and education remain, we are particularly proud our site at Ravenshead which has recently been awarded outstanding in every area of care and education by Ofsted. We are the only private day nursery in Nottinghamshire and one of only a handful in the country to achieve the highest grading in every area, this demonstrates our dedication and commitment to providing the best care for each and every child. The Birth to Three frameworks covers the planning we provide for babies up until their third birthday, this is linked to the Foundation stage which takes the child up to 5 years of age. Play, rest and development including pre-school education is planned into the curriculum, designed to keep children stimulated and happy throughout their nursery day. The secure and structured environment provides the opportunity for individual expression and group activities, such as language, communication, sensory activities, culture and mathematics. We emphasise the significance in developing independence, co-ordination of movement, concentration, social interaction and awareness, aiming to prepare your child for the move to school. A detailed curriculum is prepared focusing on each childs particular needs, experiences and areas of development. At all times children are stimulated to develop physically, intellectually, socially and emotionally. A daily and weekly routine is displayed on the parents notice board in each room. Learning through play In these early years, children absorb and respond readily to information, eagerly in the search for new experiences. It is known that the experiences in pre-school years can set patterns for later learning. A carefully considered curriculum of activities has been developed to ensure your child experiences the opportunities for learning through play. Themes that all children can relate to are introduced through the year to allow different ideas and skills to be developed with understanding and continuity. Each child has a progress folder. Social development is encouraged through playing in-groups, sharing toys and interacting with other children and staff. Children are also encouraged to take responsibilities for daily activities such as looking after equipment, laying the table for lunch, and caring for the environment. Policies All our policies are kept in our operational plan folders; some are also displayed on our notice boards within the nurseries these relate to the following: Educational programmes and activities Children with special educational needs Health and safety Equal opportunities Discipline Admission of children Child protection We are under obligation to report any incident to Ofsted that is contained within our Child protection procedure folder which is kept at the nursery, please ask a member of staff if you wish to see this. Incident sheets must be signed by the parent/guardian if your child/children attend the nursery with any visible marks to their body that has happened out of nursery hours. Complaints procedure We wish to encourage any parent who feels unhappy with any aspect of the Nursery to raise their concerns with staff at any early stage so that issues may be quickly resolved. Firstly, parents should discuss informally with the Senior Nursery Nurse in the room. If the matter needs more formal attention the Assistant Manager can arrange a private appointment to discuss the problem. If the parent is still dissatisfied then they should make an appointment to discuss the matter with the Nursery Manager who will then take any appropriate action. If the Nursery feels that the problem has not been resolved then they would contact Ofsted for further advice and support. At any time a parent who wishes to make a complaint about the setting, Ofsted Early Years regulator can be contacted on:- Ofsted Midlands Region, Building C, Cumberland Place, Park Row, Nottingham, NG1 6HJ, Telephone: 0845 6014771 Our complaint record is available for parents to see on request. Complainants will be notified of the outcome within 28 days. Babies/Toddlers/Our aims and our staff Leaving a young baby when returning to work can be very difficult and upsetting. Many of our staff are parents themselves and will understand your concerns. We encourage parents and mothers to spend time in the nursery, forming relationships with the staff that will be caring for their baby. Feed and sleep routines established at home are encouraged during the nursery day. During your settling in visits the staff will spend time with you discussing your childs needs. During these visits or prior to starting the nursery you will be asked to complete a booklet that tells us all about your child, this will ensure that all your childs individual needs are met. We consult parents regularly on changes to feeding and weaning. Available at the nursery are many information sheets on feeding and weaning your baby if you would like a copy please ask the baby room staff. We potty train when the children are ready, growth and developments are noted and regularly discussed with parents. Each child has an individual development file, which is updated when your child achieves another goal; these are dated so you will know exactly when they have achieved something new. Toddlers As your child grows and develops there will be room changes along the way. These will be made over a period of time and settling your child before the final move is essential. Wherever possible we may also move a member of staff into the new room at the same time. There will be lots of visits before hand to their new room, parents will be informed when this is about to take place and will be introduced to the staff in the next room. The activities will be more stimulating and demanding as your child moves through the nursery with the day becoming more structured, preparing your child for the pre-school Our aims Cherubs Day Nurseries aim to provide a fresh approach to childcare developed in response to the needs of the modern parent. Nursery care and early education are vital to a childs social, intellectual and emotional development. Our staff understands the balance of security and the stimulation children need, feeding their natural curiosity and encouraging their abilities to absorb new experiences and discoveries. We provide a total service that will allow you to get on with your life, in the certain knowledge that your children are in the best of hands, and provide the flexibility that working parents need. We have bright, secure, spacious facilities including special baby rooms/ units and separate rooms for each individual age group. Our nursery day At Cherubs Day Nurseries we cater for babies from 6 weeks old to children of school age wuth after school and holiday care. We offer both full and part-time places but recommend that children attend a minimum of two sessions to ensure they have an element of continuity. Before and after school care, preference is given to families who have previously attended the nursery and to those siblings who currently attend, as this service is limited, breakfast is available before 8:20am and a light tea is provided for after school children. There is a separate leaflet outlining the activities and fees of our Cool Club. Staff A high percentage of our staff holds the N.N.E.B, BTEC or NVQ level 3 and 2 qualifications or equivalent. The rest are undergoing their training with training policies and thorough induction programme to ensure the highest standards of care and education, currently approximately 80% and 90% hold a childcare qualification. We adhere to staffing levels set out by Ofsted which is 50% qualified, but mostly are in excess of these. In each room there is a senior Nursery Nurse in charge of the room, staff and the children in there. Regular staff and team meetings ensure that all staff caring for your child will be aware of the individual attention your child needs throughout the day. Safety/Sickness/Meals/Parental Involvement/Personal property Any children suffering from an infection, sickness or diarrhoea should be kept at home to avoid cross-infection. The nursery should be notified of all sickness absences. Every effort will be made to contact parents if a child is taken ill at the nursery but the Nursery Manager may have to contact a doctor take the child to hospital to avoid delay. Meals Our qualified cooks prepare all meals using only the best fresh foods. For children arriving before 8.20am breakfast will be served. All children will have mid morning drinks, a two-course lunch, and a light afternoon tea. Our meals are designed to provide all your childs nutritional needs. We are happy to accommodate any special dietary requirements upon request. The menu is changed weekly and is displayed on the notice board in each room or the main notice board. The nurseries are registered and inspected by the Ofsted early years unit. We are also inspected by the Environmental Health and Fire Service departments. We regard the security and safety of the children as a priority. All external doors are fitted with security coded entry systems. All equipment both in and outdoors, receives regular safety checks by our maintenance engineers. The majority of our staff are qualified in giving first aid. Any accident will be recorded on an Accident sheet, parents or authorised collectors will be asked to countersign the accident sheet upon collection, so they are aware of the accident and the action taken. These sheets are then evaluated by the nursery manager. Fire drills are practised on a regular basis; these are recorded in our fire log book. For all parents, the happiness of their children is paramount. Cherubs Day Nurseries will offer the highest standards of care and education in a stimulating environment with professional caring staff. Children should have a pair of indoor slippers or shoes, which can be left at the nursery. All children should be provided with spare clothing, particularly when potty training. Parents of babies in nappies must provide their own disposable nappies and baby wipes, which can be left securely in the babys locker or basket. Jewellery should not be worn to nursery, as the nursery does not accept responsibility for any loss or damage. Parental involvement From time to time we organise special events for parents and their children. Open days, trips and visits, along with informal social gatherings provide the opportunity for parents to get together with staff. Our summer fare and Christmas concert have become annual events not to be missed. By providing the very best service for both your child and yourselves, we can ease some of the pressure involved in managing different aspects of your lives. We actively encourage discussions between staff and parents, this usually takes the form of informal chats at the beginning and end of the day, and we are always available for any specific subject you may wish to discuss, regarding your childs care. We have an annual parents evening, providing reports on your childs progress. We talk about important developments, particular interests or skills, and your childs general happiness and well-being. Your child will take home some of the art and craft activities they have worked on during the day. We encourage you to discuss any changes you have made at home, or developments, which you believe would be useful to the nursery staff. These discussions are strictly confidential but ensure that we are able to meet your childs individual needs. In addition to what you see at the nursery on a day-to-day basis and read on our notice board, we publish a newsletter which will keep you up-to-date on nursery events, articles on child care development, education and news of forthcoming social events. Children are not allowed to have sweets or chocolate, unless it is a special occasion, please see a member of staff before bringing any into the nursery.
